Project Description

The newest facility in the Petrotrin Refinery was twenty (20) years old. A major refinery upgrade was planned with the key activities being the revamping and instrument modernization of existing facilities and the construction of new facilities.

SNC-Lavalin, a Canadian company, was contracted for the Petrotrin Refinery Upgrade Package C, which comprised of the Electrical and Instrumentation aspects of the project.

ENMAN was subcontracted to perform the specialized areas of Factory and Site Acceptance Tests together with SNC-Lavalin personnel. Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) included a complete check of the system configuration, controller action, alarm functions, schematic behavior and 100% testing of all inputs and outputs.

Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) included testing of 25% of all system inputs / outputs and witnessing diagnostic checks were performed by SNC-Lavalin personnel.

George Wimpey (Caribbean) Limited was contracted for the Petrotrin Refinery Upgrade Package B, which included the mechanical aspects of the project. The company subcontracted ENMAN to perform site support services in the areas of Piping Planning and Progress Measurement for the upgrade of the Number Two (2) Hydro-Treating Unit (2HTU), Sulphur Recovery Unit (SRU) and the Hydrogen Unit (H2). Piping Planning services included piping work look-aheads and material take offs, while Progress Measurement included pre- and post-punching of Hydro Test Packages, inspection and preparation of outstanding works, and defects list for turn-over packages.

Added to the original scope of works, Petrotrin decided to implement a Discrete Control System (DCS) to oversee the Fluid Catalytic Cracker Unit (FCCU) Air Blower. This project was awarded to H.J. Gransaull and Company Limited who subcontracted ENMAN to perform electrical and instrument engineering and draughting services. ENMAN was required to perform field surveys and inspection of all vessels, pipelines, and equipment, in order to produce Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for the Air Blower and Lube Oil System and to update old P&IDs with all the new tie-in points. ENMAN also provided As-Built documentation, loop drawings for loops installed and the data sheets for all instruments.
